World Mail & Express Conference Series

World Mail Review May 2008 Since 1988, the World Mail & Express (WMX) series has been unchallenged as a meeting place for all sectors of fast moving industry. The changing landscape has seen the focus shift, in some regions, from express to mail where the current battlegrounds are being drawn. Liberalisation has created a situation where companies not only look to compete with each other, but seek new alliances, share technology and innovation, and most importantly survive financially in an ever more commercial world.

Originally intended as an annual global event, the World Mail & Express series now has many regional flavours reflecting the differing regional issues. During the next twelve months we will be welcoming the most influential people in the industry to our Americas event in Miami in February 2009 followed by the European event heading to Munich in May 2009.

Both countries are welcoming Triangle back to their respective regions. After the success of PosTech in Saudi Arabia (November 2007) we are pleased to be taking the event to the wonderful Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt 16-18 November 2008 (See PosTech article on pages 50-51). With events in Asia Pacific and Middle East and Africa planned for the near future, Triangle are focusing on a truly global representation form all of their events.

By going regional, as opposed to a one off annual event, we have ensured that over 80 of the world’s top post offices, as well as a large number of private postal operators have sent their Directors/VPs or their PMG/CEO to the World Mail& Express series during the last two years. The regional aspect ensures that the conference focuses on local issues, relevant to the time and the place. As a meeting venue for integrators, express operators, postal operators, airlines, airports, mailhouses, forwarders, technology specialists and consultants the WMX Conference is the place where government meets commercial, where strategists meet regulators, where integrators look for acquisitions, where executives meet peers and suppliers meet customers to discuss business, socialise and build long lasting relationships.

Mail users such as Readers Digest, American Express, Time, Business Week, National Geographic and Newsweek regularly visit WMX conferences to update themselves of current thinking and to contribute to the discussions. Alongside the Conference, there are other activities. In Europe, the prestigious World Mail Awards attracts 300+ executives to a Gala Dinner to recognise and reward achievements in the industry throughout the previous year. Specialist seminars on, for example, technology, Retail Networks and Airmail carrying gives an opportunity for CTO’s, CIO’s and Project Directors to familiarise themselves with developments and the industry’s future.

A display area/meeting room creates an opportunity for companies to promote their products and services to the senior executive delegates. Business is done over coffee, lunch or maybe a glass of wine. But be aware – this is not a standard exhibition, this is not the platform to display conveyor belts, electric motorbikes or hand trolleys; this is an opportunity to talk, to network and build relationships. The emphasis is quality not quantity. Whether as a chairman, speaker, delegate, sponsor or exhibitor for 20 years, the World Mail & Express series of conferences has provided a unique platform for our industry to look to the future and to attend an issue-led event that is forward thinking, not retrospective.

Often imitated, never equalled, the WMX series continues as a conduit for the industry to do business.
