Deutsche Post faces further problems with Brussels (Neuer Arger aus Brussel)

Deutsche Post AG, the German post office, faces legal action from private
delivery companies, who have approached the EU competition authorities,
claiming
that Deutsche Post financed the acquisition of delivery businesses with
income
from activities in which it holds a monopoly. The association for
competition
and fair conduct in delivery, logistics and haulage, comprising 70
medium-sized
companies, accuses Deutsche Post of buying up the foreign co-operation
partners
of medium-sized businesses, breaking up cross-border delivery networks.
Andreas Muller, the association’s spokesman, sees favourable chances that
the
legal action will be successful, following the imposition of a 24m euros
fine on
Deutsche Post and the demand that it separate document and parcel postage
services. The association believes that this marked a turning point in the
attitude of the EU commission.
