DHL opens new green building

DHL has opened a new green distribution centre in Auckland, New Zealand.

DHL has opened a new green distribution centre in Auckland, New Zealand.

The $14m, state-of-the-art warehouse is located at Westney industrial park, near the international airport.

The new DHL Global facility will “support anticipated business growth and offer enhanced solutions to customers from all industry sectors”, the company said.

“€14m is a significant investment in the city’s infrastructure at a time when it is particularly needed”, said Auckland mayor John Banks in opening the building.

“A major multinational company making a long-term investment in the areas of infrastructure, transport and logistics sends a positive signal to business as we work to strengthen the economy.”

Part of the design includes a large canopy to allow work to continue uninterrupted in all weather conditions, and increased chiller storage capacity.

The architecture is aligned with principles of the New Zealand Green Building Council’s ‘4 Star Green Star’ rating, said DHL. The building includes advanced green features relating to indoor environmental quality measures, energy measures and emissions and pollution control.
