DPD goes further East

In its function as the La Poste division for the parcel and logistics sector, Deutscher Paket Dienst DPD plays an important role in setting up and expanding its European structures. Integrating the Baltic area and Poland would be the next step in the pioneering work for new markets, it was reported in Aschaffenburg in March. And what’s more: «We are definitely preparing to start operations in the Balkan states and in Southeast Europe.» The company is also celebrating its 25th anniversary. A total of 18 well-known German forwarders put together their knowledge of the market in spring 1976 and formed a totally novel kind of cooperation. During the first year DPD already developed into a serious competitor in a market which had previously been dominated by Deutsche Bundespost. They transported some 1.5 million parcels during their first year. These days DPD carries over 1 million parcels per day.
