DHL launches direct LCL services from Vietnam to Germany, Italy and US
DHL has launched direct LCL services connecting Ho Chi Minh City to Hamburg, Genoa and Los Angeles, Eye for Transport reports. Operated by DHL’s in-house carrier, Danmar Lines, the new weekly direct LCL services shaves up to a week off transit times.
In the face of the global economic slowdown, Vietnam remains a resilient export economy, and the launch of the new services taps into the key trade lanes for businesses in Vietnam.
With exports worth US$12.2 billion to Europe in 2008, the two European destinations facilitate trade with the Vietnam’s largest export region. This is followed closely by the US, to which Vietnam exported goods worth US$11.86 billion last year.
In the first six months of this year, Vietnam exported US$10 billion worth of garment and apparel-related goods. DHL Global Forwarding has recently strengthened its commitment to Vietnam’s fast-growing fashion logistics industry with the launch of its textainers and garments-on-hangers products designed to support Vietnamese garment exporters. The company has also announced plans to establish the DHL Fashion and Apparel Centre for Excellence – its first in Southeast Asia.
With this new service offering, DHL now serves 54 destinations in the US with its inland network via Los Angeles, and 26 European destinations through Genoa and Hamburg.
Since the start of this year, DHL has launched 22 direct LCL routes.
