Posten Norge change favourable for Bunnpris (food stores)

Posten Norge, the Norwegian post company, has initiated its new strategy of
closing down post offices and opening smaller postal services in local
shops.
Posten hopes to save NKr1bn through the changes. A total of 1,100 stores,
kiosks and gas stations will offer post office services by the end of 2002.
NorgesGruppen, the Norwegian supermarket chain, will have around 700 post
offices in its stores, while Hakon Gruppen, its counterpart, will offer
postal services in 77 stores. Coop Norge, the Norwegian co-operative, will have
post services in 110 stores.
For some of the stores now offering postal services, the change has been
favourable. In Skogn in Norway, Bunnpris, the food chain, has increased
sales of food by 25 per cent since it started providing postal services. Bunnpris has found that a number of customers choose to do their shopping in the store while using the post services, while previously they would have used other stores in the area.
