ORIGINAL TITLE: FEDERAL EXPRESS EXPANDS OPERATIONS IN CHINA. FULLTEXT: SHANGHAI, April 18 Asia Pulse – United States-based courier company Federal
Express (FedEx) has announced plans to launch its Shanghai Express Freighter
service this month as part of a strategy to expand its presence in one of the
world’s fastest growing express mail markets. The new flight will improve services from eastern China to the United States
by three to four hours, said David Cunningham, FedEx’s Asia-Pacific division
president. Preparations are also underway by the FedEx to build a new express handling
center at the Pudong International Airport, which will be the largest among
its network in China. FedEx now already operate four express handling facilities in Hangzhou,
Nanjing, Ningbo and Dongguan. It serves about 190 Chinese cities and aims to
boost the figure to 290 within five years. “The express segment in Asia continues to grow faster than any other region in
the world. China is the fastest growing economy within the FedEx network. It
has huge potential,” said Cunningham. He made it clear that FedEx will
continue expanding its investment in China to provide quality door-to-door
services to Chinese customers. (XIC) Page n/a Copyright 2001 Asia Pulse Pte Ltd. (c) 2001 Resp. DB Svcs. All rts. reserv.
