Jersey Post selects Skillweb solution
Jersey Post has chosen Skillweb to develop an end-to-end mobile communications solution for Ship2me, a home delivery service for Jersey and Guernsey. Ship2me uses Skillweb’s Houndit technology system to track parcels from its distribution hub on the south coast of England throughout the supply chain process until it arrives at the customer’s door.
The tracking solution uses barcoding, GPS tracking and handheld scanners, to monitor the status of an item at every stage of delivery, with electronic signature capture providing proof of delivery. In addition, customers receive automated email notification regarding the delivery status and SMS alerts are planned in the near future.
The solution also includes a consumer-facing website where customers can purchase delivery and check on the progress of their orders, whilst a customer service system allows Jersey Post employees to manage all commercial transactions.
The depot system that manages the physical movement of all orders also generates the detailed reports required by Jersey Customs and Excise to provide details of all incoming orders and support Ship2me’s status as a Jersey Customs Clearance Agent.
Marcel le Claire, head of business systems at Jersey Post Group said: “We chose Skillweb because of their specialist knowledge of developing effective parcel tracking systems. This expertise combined with their advanced mobile communications technology has helped us take Ship2me from a business concept to a proven delivery service.”
Paul Ridden, managing director of Skillweb: “We have worked in partnership with Jersey Post’s in-house development team to deliver a technology platform that could handle the launch of the new Ship2me service and support ongoing operational excellence.”
Ship2me was launched in September this year, to overcome the long-standing obstacle of more than 60% UK online and retail suppliers not delivering to the Channel Islands. By registering with Ship2me, residents, retailers and the business communities of the Bailiwicks of Jersey and Guernsey are able to buy from retail outlets in the UK and the EU – online, in person or by phone – and arrange onward delivery to the islands normally within three days.
Since its launch, Ship2me has gained more than 5,000 registered users, who have already spent in excess of £200,000.
