Schenker opens U.S. hub
International forwarder Schenker, Inc. said it opened its first U.S. integrated logistics center in Miami as part of an aggressive expansion strategy in the United States.
Officials of the Essen, German-based forwarder and logistics company have said their plan is to double revenue in the U.S. within three years from the current level of about $550 million. The will open offices in nine additional cities within the next year, bringing its total in the U.S. to 60.
The new 106,000 square foot facility will be able to handle numerous services such as purchase order management, vendor management, pick and pack, kitting, crating, and other value-added services. Some of these include light assembly provided on customer demand, palletizing, nationalization, devanning and container loading and standard consolidation services.
The facility will utilize an internal information system called SOLINET (Schenker Online Logistics Information Network), which offers Web-enabled data access and radio frequency-driven processes. The center is modeled on similar facilities the company has opened in Singapore and Rotterdam.
