DPD in Russia launches Russia’s first intelligent parcel sortation solution
The launch of a state-of-the art sorter took place at the central hub of DPD in Russia, located in Krasnogorsk, Moscow Region. The opening of the new sorter means a significant expansion of DPD’s operations capacity. The number of parcels processed at the central hub daily can be increased by 50%. The intelligent control system of the sorter which is run by one operator from a central programmable logic control unit, allows optimum utilisation of the hub capacity. Thanks to the automation of parcel scanning, sorting, weighing and measuring operations the deployment of the sorter considerably reduces manual work and nullifies the probability of errors when performing these operations. In 2010, the advanced sorting equipment will help DPD in Russia process over 5 million parcels at its central hub.
Wolfgang Lehmacher, CEO of GeoPost Intercontinental, adds: “In our strategy, Russia holds a strategic position between the European Union, Turkey and the booming Asian market. Over the past 5 years we have expanded our high quality European platform into a worldwide capability, into a global network. The new sorter is another innovative move in a series of developments not only for customers in Russia, but as well for more than 300,000 customers of GeoPost all over the world.”
In previous days, also DPD announced an expanded 10:00 service to cover additional addresses in the Netherlands. As a result, the company states that next-day parcel delivery is now possible before 10:00 in the morning for nearly 80% of all addresses in the Netherlands.
