Australia Post struggles with election demands

Australia Post is struggling with an increased demand for postal votes in one of the country’s state elections. Electoral commissioner Kaye Mousley told Adelaide Now that she expects 90,000 votes to come in by mail.

Statistics show that the number of postal votes made between the 2002 and 2006 elections grew by 38%. The same increase is expected for 2010 – with Mousley citing an ageing population and longer holidays as key contributors.

She told the news channel: “Australia Post is not coping with the demand. There seems to be quite a delay in people getting their voting done by post. As long as the vote is recorded and witnessed before polling day, the vote will be counted.”
