Parliament ends Deutsche Post’s exclusive tax exemptions
Deutsche Post’s exclusive tax exemptions will end in July, after Germany’s parliament agreed to change legislation. Other providers of mail services in the country will now also be available to claim exemption from the summer, it was agreed on Friday (26 March).
According to media reports in Germany, the exemption had previously given Deutsche Post a cost advantage of up to EUR 500m.
Earlier this year, the company’s CEO Frank Appel told Focus magazine: “We see the proposed legislation as being in contradiction with applicable European law.”
Deutsche Post DHL has yet to comment on Friday’s agreement.
