DHL and Volkswagen ink five-year deal

DHL Supply Chain and Volkswagen have signed a five-year logistics contract in Slovakia. Under the contract, DHL Supply Chain will provide a major part of the in-plant logistics for the Volkswagen assembly plant in Bratislava, Slovakia. DHL was awarded the business following an international tender process.

Some 800 DHL employees will manage in-plant logistics for 50% of the production materials of the models produced by the Volkswagen Group in Slovakia’s capital. This involves engines, gearboxes and windscreens for the Audi Q7, Porsche Cayenne and Volkswagen Touareg. Services provided will include inbound receiving, put away and storage, picking and kitting, sequencing and line-side deliveries directly to the Volkswagen production lines.

“Our industry-specific approach to logistics enables us to provide worldwide support to demanding automotive customers such as Volkswagen. In this sector in particular, consistently high quality and a considerable measure of innovative ability are essential,” said Ilhami Arslanoglu, vice president sub industry sector automotive, DHL Global Customer Solutions, who is managing the relationship with Volkswagen.

Pavel Hendrych, managing director, DHL Supply Chain Slovakia: “I’m confident that our team will work very closely with VW to improve even the smallest details in this package. Our strong presence on the ground and DHL’s experience in the automotive sector will provide a clear added value to the customer.”
