Renewed romours concerning a possible DHL Worldwide Participation in Airbourne Express.

Last week renewed rumours occurred concerning a possible DHL Worldwide
participation in Airborne Express. Quoting unspecified sources from within the aviation industry, the ‘Business Week’ magazine reported on informal talks between the companies. Apparently the talks concerned a DHL majority participation in Airborne. Several months ago the CEP News reported on such talks involving DHL and Airborne (CEP News 12/01).
DHL is said to be interested mainly in the ground network operated by Airborne since April as an additional service option (CEP News 17/01). For DHL (i.e. Deutsche Post) a participation would instantly open the doors to a nationwide parcel network in the US. In 1999 Airborne conducted fruitless negotiations concerning a merger with the Dutch TNT Post Group (CEP News 28/99). The failure of the discussions was apparently caused by the level of claims from Airborne managers. However, Airborne has since got into financially ‘troubled waters’, disappointing its shareholders by issuing numerous profit warnings.
