Japan Post looks boost full-time workers
Japan Post could move 65,000 temporary workers on to permanent contracts. Jiro Saito, president of Japan Post Holdings Co, said that the move could help stabilise employment at the company as it looks to scale back the planned privatisation of the Group.
Sato announced at a press conference that the workers in question, almost a third of the company’s 200,000 non-regular workers, could receive full-time status by November.
Workers under the age of 60, who work more than 30 hours a week, and have been with Japan Post for more than three years, will be eligible.
This seems strange. At a time when the rest of the developed world are cutting back on their full time workforce and trying to make their cost-bases more flexible the Japanese do the opposite. I wonder if anyone out there has any insight as to why?
