Irish operator improves service quality

An Post, the Irish operator, has said that 84% of letters posted in Ireland to addresses within the State was delivered on the next working day between January and March. The results published as a part of ComReg’s latest quality monitor results. This compares with 83% for the same period last year and consolidates the performance for 2009 as a whole.

The current fine spell is in extreme contrast to the snowfalls and icy conditions which enveloped the country in January, seriously disrupting mails collections and deliveries, and resulting in hazardous road conditions for An Post’s mails delivery and distribution staff around the country.

“Quality improvement is a top priority for us,” said Donal Connell, An Post chief executive. “The severe snowfalls and freezing conditions in the early weeks of this year were the worst we’ve ever had to deal with. Our mails collection, processing and delivery staff worked flat out in very difficult conditions to get mail through to customers and they even managed to improve their performance on the same period last year. We’ll continue to make steady progress towards our 94 per cent next-day target”.
