IPC re-elects Bailly, with Mejdell to follow
Jean-Paul Bailly, chairman and CEO of Groupe La Poste, has been re-elected as chairman of the International Post Corporation (IPC). Following Bailly will be Dag Mejdell, CEO of Post Norway, who will assume the chairmanship of the IPC board on 1 December 2010.
Bailly, who has been serving as chairman of the board since January 2006 said: “I am honoured to represent 24 of the world’s largest posts through a time of enormous change in the postal industry.”
Bailly went on to say, that “now more than ever it is crucial to the future of the industry that posts that may compete on many levels, must also cooperate to move the industry forward in a time when it is facing a steep decline in letter mail volume, new sources of competition and increasing options for substitution. In order to remain relevant and a provider of choice in the future, the posts must be able to proactively plan to meet the needs of a rapidly changing marketplace and respond to our stakeholders with innovation, quality and delivery solutions that fit their needs.”
During Bailly’s tenure as chairman, the members of IPC have improved international delivery quality, expanded cooperative industry research and intelligence and led the effort to develop an environmental monitoring and measuring system to address the carbon footprint of the postal industry.
Last year in Copenhagen during COP15, Bailly and 19 other postal CEOs announced a collective 20% carbon reduction goal by 2020.
“Jean-Paul’s leadership has been vital to the strategic direction both for IPC and the postal industry as a whole,” said Herbert-Michael Zapf, president and CEO of the International Post Corporation. “Jean-Paul Bailly’s ability to facilitate cooperation among the posts is helping to move us as an industry through some extremely challenging times and is leading us in the direction of new opportunities and new ways of thinking about the industry’s future.”
The board has appointed Dag Mejdell, CEO of Norway Post, to take over as chairman of the IPC board effective December 2010. “I am honored to accept this appointment as from December and look forward to carrying on the good work of our current chairman, Mr. Bailly,” announced Mejdell. “IPC has successfully delivered value to its members for over two decades and I am excited at the prospect of leading this important organisation as we move into our third decade of postal cooperation, quality management and commitment to excellence.”
