Aramex pushes for greener facilities with EMS

Aramex will work with Energy Management Solutions (EMS) to achieve a silver green building rating in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) for its new corporate properties in Egypt and Jordan. EMS will initially implement LEED parameters in the design and construction stage of Aramex’s new facilities in Cairo and Amman.

As part of this project, EMS is proposing energy conservation measures for the two properties through energy modelling simulations that will be used to predict and improve energy efficiencies. EMS has also assessed that the potential cost impact of implementing LEED for the building will not exceed 2.8% of total project cost.

The LEED Green Building Rating System, developed by the US Green Building Council (USGBC), provides a suite of standards for environmentally sustainable construction. As a target, a silver LEED certification would signify that both Aramex buildings have met a series of criteria for green buildings. The major environmental categories of review include sustainable site, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, material and resources and indoor environmental quality.

Khaled Bushnaq, CEO of EMS, said: “Green buildings provide long term cost benefits for companies and their employees, by reducing energy and water consumption and providing a sustainable work environment. Taking the green route definitely makes sound business sense for Aramex.”

Raji Hattar, chief sustainability & compliance officer, Aramex, said: “Achieving environmental sustainability in our business operations is an integral part of Aramex’s corporate creed. It is imperative, therefore, that both our new properties be LEED certified. Our partnership with EMS, the regional pioneer in energy management solutions, underlines our commitment to not only mitigating negative environmental impacts but also reducing our business costs.”
