Irish postmistress sacked after armed robbery
An Post, the Irish national operator, has terminated the contract of a postmistress after she failed to follow security procedures during an armed robbery. Three armed robbed left Carrigans, County Donegal, in February last year with EUR 80,000.
Postmistress Bernie Moore, who had ran the post office for 30 years, was subsequently sacked, as well as being told she must pay back the money stolen.
A spokesman from An Post told the BBC: “While we do not wish to comment on an individual case we can confirm that the issue in Carrigans involved ongoing failure to implement basic security arrangements. For this reason we terminated the contract of our postmistress in Carrigans. These security measures are in place for the protection of post office staff and customers. Failing to implement these measures puts all post office staff and customers at risk.”
