GULF STATE REPRESENTATIVES TO MEET IN DUBAI TO DISCUSS JOINT EXPRESS MAIL SERVICE

According to “Gulf Times”, the October meeting of the heads of the postal organizations in the six Gulf states in Dubai is expected to take a final decision on setting up a company to deal with express mail, Director of Posts Ali Mohamed al-Ali said. He said the six Gulf states had not been able to agree on all issues vis-a-vis establishment of a separate company for handling express mail (Mumtaz Post). However, he hoped that the company would become a reality. The proposal to set up a separate company for express mail was to equip the Gulf postal organizations to face competition from private courier companies. While the framework has not been prepared yet, a suggestion is to limit the company’s jurisdiction to the Gulf region in the first phase. A model suggested is that of Dubai’s Empost. It was carved out of the Emirates Postal Department.
