Nordström replaced by Idermark at Posten Norden

President and CEO of Posten Norden Lars G. Nordström has left the company to be succeeded by Lars Idermark. Nordström has been at the helm since the company’s formation in 2009, and was previously CEO at Swedish Posten, where he was in charge of overseeing the company’s merger with Post Danmark.

Posten Norden chairman Fritz H. Schur said that Nordström was “stepping down in complete accordance with our previous agreement”.

Idemark, who will take up his new position at the turn of the year, is currently CEO of the Swedish Cooperative Union (KF). He has previously served as CEO of the Second Swedish National Pension Fund, deputy group CEO of the Capio healthcare group, and deputy CEO of Föreningssparbanken (Cooperative Savings Bank) and Föreningsbanken (Cooperative Bank).

Posten Norden described Idermark as having an extensive background from the agricultural cooperative, where his previous positions include that of CEO of LRF Holding. He has also served as chairman of Swedbank’s board of directors since last spring.

Schur was excited upon announcing the appointment. He said: “With Lars Idermark, we have succeeded in recruiting a person who possesses the optimal experience and background to lead Posten Norden. Idermark has a genuine business and financial background, with experience from social sectors. This background, combined with his drive and focus on results, gives him the ideal qualities to lead Posten Norden.”

Schur also praised the outgoing Nordström, announcing that with “untiring commitment” the departing President and CEO had done a “splendid job implementing the merger of two national postal groups and establishing Posten Norden while countering the effects of the economic crisis”.

Earlier this year, Nordström spoke to Mail & Express Review about the anatomy of the merger. He said: “The merger of Post Danmark A/S and Posten AB is a well timed offensive move.

“The market is facing a structural transformation that will have major consequences for market participants. The merger makes Posten Norden more competitive, thereby arming it to meet the challenges of tougher competition and weakening letter volumes while maintaining high quality postal services in Denmark and Sweden.”
