DHL ties-up Scottish public sector contract
DHL Express UK has been appointed by Procurement Scotland as the main carrier for the country’s public sector bodies. The express company will transport items such as exam papers, court manuscripts, and council documents.
Furthermore, the contract will see DHL couriers making collections from the main Glasgow blood bank to hospitals and labs all over the country.
Manish Joshi, managing director, Same Day for DHL Express UK, said: “This is a very important time for the Scottish public sector to be reviewing its partners to ensure its getting the most cost effective and efficient service. We are very proud to be able to provide a service that delivers significant cost savings without compromising quality of service.”
DHL was appointed following a review of all courier contracts to centralised services under a Procurement Framework Agreement. The contract sees DHL provide courier services for a wide range of organisations, including same day, overnight and international deliveries for central government, local government, universities and colleges, the fire service, police force, charities and the NHS, at pre-agreed rates.
DHL’s high level of security will also see couriers delivering overnight shipments of court manuscripts for the Scottish Court Services and carrying out a range of services for the Scottish Prison Services.
Prior to winning the contract in a competitive tender process, DHL held several Scottish Government courier contracts, including the transportation of election ballot boxes which require high levels of security as well as speed of delivery.
