£20M MAIL DELIVERY

ROYAL Mail is to open a £20m distribution centre in Warrington to handle the region’s business post.

The centre brings under one roof the operations which have been carried out at five other sites – Westhoughton and Lostock, near Bolton, Brunswick Dock, Liverpool, Crewe, Bamber Bridge and Preston. More than 500 people will work at the new centre, many having transferred from the other sites.

The old sites had become too small to cope with the growing volumes of bulk mail, which comprises around 50 million items per week.
