DHL gives green upgrade to Japan service

DHL Japan has launched its upgraded DHL EXPRESS EASY – which now features carbon-neutral transport for general customers including small and midsize enterprises (SMEs) and individuals. DHL EXPRESS EASY is an ‘all-you-can-pack’ service using three types of dedicated packages: “envelope”, “box” or “big box”.

The service also uses simplified fees based on three destination zones – Asia Pacific, America and Europe/other – rather than weight.

This means that fees remain fixed regardless of fluctuating jet fuel surcharges. The shipping procedure can be completed at any of 129 DHL SERVICE POINTs in DHL Japan’s network.

Furthermore, DHL Japan has moved to offset carbon emissions for the service. The company said it will calculate the carbon emissions generated by transporting each shipment, and then offset these emissions – reinvesting in certified carbon management programmes, such as alternative vehicle fuel technology, solar panels and reforestation projects.

The move forms part of Deutsche Post DHL’s environmental programme – which includes GoGreen – with the specific goal of CO2 reduction target of 30% by 2020.

DHL Japan president and representative director Taketo Yamakawa said: “Following the introduction of our DHL GOGREEN Carbon Neutral transport service for major corporate customers last year, we now are pleased to offer general customers, including SMEs and proprietors in international businesses as well as individuals, the same great benefits of this easy-to-use, environmentally friendly international transport service.

“The upgraded DHL EXPRESS EASY demonstrates DHL’s continuing leadership in the international express industry, where we are strengthening eco-friendly services in response to customers’ increasing environmental awareness.”
