FedEx expands in India with import, domestic services

FedEx has increased its portfolio in India by launching an import service, as well as expanding its domestic express service. The introduction of FedEx Import services in India will see the door-to-door, customs-cleared, customised and time-definite services being made available to Indian importers.

FedEx confirmed that with a transit time of typically two to three business days, the new services will be available from more than 220 countries – making it the highest by any import service provider in India.

Customers will also be able to make payments in Indian Rupees.

Kenneth F. Koval, vice president operations, FedEx Express India, said: “We have successfully leveraged the strength of our vast network and flexible product portfolio to drive the competitiveness of Indian businesses by connecting them to an extensive network of global suppliers and customers.

“With the Import services, FedEx aims to stimulate this growth further by providing customers with the widest range of shipping solutions for all business needs in India – export, import and domestic.”

Importers in India will have access to the complete portfolio of FedEx services for express and economy shipments including dangerous goods, perishable and valuable shipments.

India’s international trade has played a vital role in contributing to the country’s economic growth.  While exports from the country grew by 23.2%, imports posted a 26.1% year-on-year growth in September 2010.

FedEx Express also confirmed the expansion of its premium domestic express delivery service across India.

The FedEx Priority Overnight and FedEx Standard Overnight services, which launched in October 2009, will now include 331 destinations, up from 58 destinations previously. This extension of FedEx domestic footprint is intended to support the growth of customers’ businesses by providing increased reach to key Indian markets.

The expansion highlights the company’s focused growth plan to facilitate unprecedented trade across India.

“India’s GDP is expected to grow between 8-9%i in the FY 2010-2011, making it one of the fastest-growing economies in the world. This growth represents enormous potential for businesses in terms of domestic trade and exploring new market opportunities within the country,” added Koval. “Our expansion is designed to facilitate faster and easier domestic trade and enhance our customers’ ability to leverage the country’s growth potential and take advantage of new trade opportunities.”

The premium domestic express service launch will be further expanded to 58 origin cities by February. The service is currently available from a number of cities including Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Coimbatore, Delhi, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, Gurgaon, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Mumbai, New Delhi, Noida, Pune, Secunderabad, Tirupur, Chinchwad, Pimpri, Thane and Navi Mumbai.
