La Poste’s goal hampered by weather
La Poste’s Quality of Service statistics for 2010 fell short of a ‘best-ever’ performance due to prolonged periods of severe weather. The Group said that 83.5% of its priority mail was delivered a day after posting – close to 2009’s record breaking benchmark of 84.7%.
The operator said it was unable to surpass the previous year’s result due to snow and freezing conditions throughout last January and February, as well as at the end of the year.
Furthermore, La Poste said services were directly affected by heavy storms in February, as well as from the fallout from the Icelandic ash cloud crisis in April.
“La Poste has been hard hit by climate events of rare magnitude, severely penalising the conditions of transport and distribution of mail and packages,” a company statement said.
Now the operator plans to smash through the 85% barrier this year.
The target forms a part of an objectives list for 2011 – drawn up after a consultation with more than 70,000 customers and businesses.
Alongside delivery targets, La Poste will be judged on a number of matters, including: research projects; the company’s compliance with quality standards; the strengthening of customer relationships; and its CO2 output.
