DHL Freight launches operations in new Swiss hub
DHL Freight has launched operations in its new logistics centre in Pratteln, Switzerland. The company described the 48,000 square metre facility as one of the “most modern” in the country.
It will act as a gateway for the European less-than-truckload (LTL) Euroconnect service, as well as serving the DHL Freight headquarters in Switzerland.
Roman W. Bisig, managing director of DHL Freight Switzerland, said: “With the new, state-of-the-art logistics centre we offer our customers the best infrastructure for the European-wide distribution of their goods and support them in the further expansion of their business in the European markets.
“This also applies to transports of temperature-sensitive shipments, which are steered by the Cold Chain Competence Center in Pratteln,” he added.
Aside from housing the office building, the logistics centre provides approximately 12,200 square metres for loading and reloading, including 62 docking positions for trucks, a warehouse area of 8,000 square metres, a storage facility for dangerous goods and an open customs warehouse.
The complete shipment transaction and warehouse area is under video surveillance; electronic access controls, burglar alarm systems and smoke detectors add to enhanced security.
The location – with easy access to the Swiss, French and German markets – serves as an important hub for the distribution of LTL shipments to approximately 50 European countries and the transport of partial as well as full-truck loads.
