DHL to save 120 jobs in Belgium

DHL Express has confirmed that 120 jobs due to be moved under a company reshuffle will remain in Belgium. A restructuring plan – originally mapped out in 2009 – would have seen the relocation of DHL Express’s Aviation Capacity Sales, Global Aviation IT and Business Process Aviation departments in Europe.

It has now been announced that the jobs will remain in Belgium.

Ken Allen, Global CEO of DHL Express, was reported in Belgian newspaper L’Anglophone as saying: “We’ve had a strong business growth in 2010 and the economic climate is generally becoming more positive. Therefore we have been able to retain these departments which have a very specific expertise and knowledge. Our employees are crucial for our continued success.”

Danny Van Himste, managing director of DHL Express Belux, said: “This announcement underpins the strategic importance of Belgium to DHL. Our country is a focal market when it comes to import and export in Europe and beyond.

“Once again, the fact that these departments stay in Belgium, shows that we provide great added value to the DHL network and are here to stay,” he added, according to the newspaper.

More than 4,000 employees at DHL are based in Belgium.
