Correos sees reduction in workplace accidents
Spanish operator Correos has reduced workplace accidents in 2010 by 22%. The number of all types of accidents has dropped – with a reduction of 44% in serious injuries and 21.8% drop in minor injuries.
This has had a positive affect on the number of working days lost as a consequence of injury – with a reported drop of 31%.
Correos said the positive figures are a result of the initiatives undertaken by the operator to protect the health of their employees.
In 2009, the operator created a programme aimed at improving health and safety measures for its 61,000 employees.
This included the launch of a network consisting of 35 health and safety technicians. Since 2009, the programme has become one of the largest in Spain.
Correos said training schedules have played a major role in accident prevention. More than 156,000 hours of training has been given to over 10,700 workers.
