NetPosti digital mail service "growing rapidly", says Itella
Finland’s Itella Posti has said its digital postal mail service, NetPosti, now has more than 300,000 users. The service took six years to reach its first 100,000 users, but Itella said yesterday that the service has grown rapidly in recent years with more consumers and companies now handling their business electronically.
Initially designed for consumers and smaller businesses and organizations when it was launch in 2001, NetPosti provides users with an electronic mailbox complete with an archive for transactional mail and magazines in digital formats. Itella has expanded the service to include corporate and larger organization recipients.
The service has around 4,000 mailers taking part, with more than 5.2m digital letters delivered through the system in 2010.
Tommi Björklund, who heads up the NetPosti service, said the growing popularity of NetPosti in Finland was down to its ability to make life easier for users.
He explained: “NetPosti provides consumers with an easy way of receiving and archiving letters and e-invoices. NetPosti replaces folder archives and piles of paper at home. All important papers are stored where it is easy to find them. NetPosti is the secure, environmentally sound mail system of our information society.”
According to Itella, the typical user of NetPosti lives in South or West Finland, is between 30 and 59 years of age, is highly-educated and has a family.
“A NetPosti user is someone who has a family and a busy life, and so has other things to do than look for receipts in drawers to complete their tax statement,” said Björklund. “For example, NetPosti users get so many bills and other important documents that going electronic makes a difference.
“So far, NetPosti has been most popular in the capital region, but we are confident that the rest of Finland will follow suit,” added the NetPosti chief.
