USPS deal gives Lynx massive parcel boost
BY MARTIN ROEBUCK
Lynx Express expects to send 20,000 parcels a month to the US following its tie-up with the US Postal Service (USPS).
A jointly branded service, pitched 40% below integrators’ rates and about 15-20% below typical wholesale deferred rates, goes live at the end of the month.
UK-originating parcels will fly nightly from London Heathrow to hubs in New York and Los Angeles. Parcels will also be linehauled from Amsterdam, Zurich and Dublin in reponse to “business opportunities that have been identified in the USPS customer portfolio”, said Nick Basford, marketing and product development director for Lynx.
Onward delivery for distances of more than 600 miles from either US hub will be carried out by FedEx, which picked up the USPS contract from Emery at the end of August.
USPS had been looking for separate partners in each country but Lynx offers collection and delivery in the main European markets through its own Benelux operations and partners in the EuroExpress network in France, Spain, Italy, Germany and Austria.
Packages will be limited to 30kg in weight and £1,000 by value. “We’re not consolidating the air freight, which makes us different from the rest of the deferred market. We will fly to the US on a scheduled basis, ” said Basford.
An eastbound service could be launched in six to eight months. This would sit between USPS’s seven- to 10-day postal package service and a DHL express product.
