Slade promoted by DHL in Japan

DHL has appointed Mark Slade as president and representative director for DHL Global Forwarding Japan, the freight and forwarding division of DHL.
Prior to his new appointment, Slade was chief operating officer of DHL Global Forwarding Japan, having assumed that role in April 2009. Slade succeeds Charles Kaufmann, who will be relocating to DHL Global Forwarding’s North Asia Pacific Office in Hong Kong as chief operating officer North Asia Pacific.

Mark joined DHL Global Forwarding (then known as Danzas AEI), in 2002 as director, Airfreight at the Asia Pacific regional office in Singapore. In that role, he was responsible for coordinating airfreight operations, air chartering and product management.

He moved to Japan in 2007, initially as head of the air freight division at DHL Global Forwarding Japan. Some of his recent achievements include implementing a new customer space and capacity booking system, investments and enhancements in customs brokerage operations and network expansion of the company to Okinawa and Haneda airport.

Kelvin Leung, CEO, North Asia Pacific, DHL Global Forwarding said: “Mark’s strong operational and management expertise in the Asia Pacific logistics industry, coupled with his dedication to customer excellence will allow DHL Global Forwarding to further grow our presence and business in Japan.”

Prior to joining DHL Global Forwarding, Slade held various sales and management positions, where he was based in Indonesia, Singapore and Hong Kong. A native of Canada, he has spent the last 15 years living in the Asia Pacific region, working in the logistics industry. He is a graduate of the University of Toronto, St. Michael’s College, with a Bachelor of Arts in history and political science.

Slade said of his new appointment: “I am honored to assume the role of President of DHL Global Forwarding Japan. In addition to expanding our network and infrastructure – we will increase our value proposition to clients with cutting edge IT solutions and value-added services. Our customers are reducing their logistics costs by outsourcing activities they used to have to do in-house, having DHL Global Forwarding do it instead.”

Kaufmann said, “I’ve worked with Mark in Japan since 2007. I have great respect for his knowledge and experience concerning the Japanese and Asian logistics markets. I firmly believe that DHL Global Forwarding will advance even further in Japan by utilising its strengths under Mark’s leadership.”
