DHL Vienna hub to boost pharmaceutical sector
DHL Global Forwarding has opened a new Competence Centre at Vienna Airport to expand the range of services available to the Life Sciences and Healthcare industries. Five hundred square metres of refrigerated warehouse space are designed to handle temperature-sensitive products and allow them to be prepped for air shipment.
The site’s team of experts is also developing products, solutions and services to guarantee safe and problem-free passage along the entire supply chain, from manufacturing line to end consumer.
“Our new Life Science Competence Center is of particular importance for our customers in the drug and medical device industries, since it offers solutions tailored to their specific needs. We’re expanding our global cold chain network. We’ve also created excellent conditions for our customers to tie into global retail markets,” said Ronald Friedreich, managing director DHL Global Forwarding Austria.
The certified Competence Centre with “highest security standards” is expected to transship roughly 20,000 pallets annually. To ensure the quality of sensitive goods, each product is marked for placement in a specific temperature range. Goods can thus be stored in temperature zones of between 2-8 ° Celsius and 15-25 ° Celsius.
Alongside its warehousing service, DHL Global Forwarding also offers loading and unloading of refrigerated containers, packing of products, coordination of the freight space and organisation of the necessary transport equipment.
Starting this summer, DHL Freight’s product LTL ColdChain Europe, a pan-European road freight pallet network dedicated to the Life Sciences and Healthcare industry, will be connected with the Vienna Competence Centre. The new site represents yet another step by DHL Freight in expanding its cold chain network and offering optimal conditions for distributing temperature controlled goods in Eastern European.
The DHL Life Science Competence Centre is a worldwide initiative oriented towards people, processes and infrastructure in the Life Sciences and Healthcare industries. DHL currently maintains 21 of these Competence Centres as part of a global network with a strong focus on markets in developing countries.
