WebRiposte Powers Jersey Post's `Legacy-Free' Network

WebRiposte Powers Jersey Post's `Legacy-Free' Network-WebRiposte provides a secure, reliable platform for distributed applications and content distribution that is truly state-of-the-art
From BUSINESS WIRE, September 26th, 2001

CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Sep 26, 2001 (BUSINESS WIRE) — Escher Group, Ltd., a
leading provider of peer-to-peer messaging and data management solutions,
today announced that Jersey Post has selected WebRiposte(TM) to automate the
island's post office network and to re-engineer its associated counter and
back-office processes. Jersey Post chose WebRiposte as its platform to grow
and diversify its revenue base, deliver operational efficiency and improve
service. In addition to the software license, Escher Group will provide the
Post with legacy-free hardware. The term legacy-free refers to the industry-wide initiative to replace some of
the older components of a traditional PC-architecture with newer, more
intelligent technology. Microsoft, Intel, Compaq, IBM, and other key
PC-industry members spearheaded the legacy-free initiative. The goal is to
reduce total cost of ownership by simplifying the PC, for example by providing
"Plug & Play" peripheral support. WebRiposte's new "Pos & Play" facility
allows older POS peripherals with legacy interfaces as well as peripherals
that support newer industry standards to interoperate seamlessly with
legacy-free workstations. This significantly reduces a Post Office's ongoing
costs of peripheral management, and frees them from keeping the hardware
configuration constant. "The WebRiposte implementation is a key part of our commitment to streamline
processes and provide the most efficient and comprehensive service to our
customers," said Ian Ridgway, director of finance and retail for Jersey Post.
"We are also excited to be pioneering a legacy-free postal network. Our
organization will serve as an example to other Posts that wish to develop a
cost effective, more stable computing environment. " Jersey Post will use WebRiposte to automate all customer-related activities,
including mail and parcel deliveries, banking, bill payments, retail,
government payments and money orders. WebRiposte's unique peer-to-peer
messaging architecture enables postal networks of all sizes and in the most
remote geographic locations to easily and securely automate such services.
Jersey Post will benefit from a high-volume, fault-tolerant, distributed,
transaction-processing platform while gaining support for Internet standards
and a full set of XML-messaging and content delivery services. "We needed a system that could address our requirements for high performance,
cost reduction, and flexibility in a very dynamic environment. WebRiposte
addresses all of these demands and enables us to provide the most advanced
services to our customers," explained John Pinel, CEO of Jersey Post. "We are
excited about our relationship with Escher Group as they are committed to the
delivery of leading-edge technologies for the postal market." "We are extremely pleased to partner with Jersey Post as they strive to work
towards the highest standard of service using the industry's most advanced
technology," said Michael J. Murphy, president and CEO of Escher Group.
"Jersey Post has a strong management team with a vision for modernization that
will revolutionize their business offerings."
