Deutsche Post: Innovative Machine Parcel Delivery throughout Germany

From mid November, Deutsche Post will offer business customers in the Dortmund and Mainz areas round-the-clock parcel collection from machines. The additional delivery service, known as “Packstation”, comes as a response to customer demand for a more flexible method of parcel distribution.

Two types of machine and different locations will be tested over a period of several months. Each time an order is placed, the recipient of a shipment specifies separately from which machine the parcel is to be collected. The recipient is informed, by SMS or email, that the parcel is ready for collection.

The first machines will be located in the 24 hr area of Center retail outlets. In conjunction with local authorities, Deutsche Bahn and ARAL, machines will also be located in busy public places.

In the first phase of the pilot, Packstation is being offered to selected business customers with whom Deutsche Post enjoys a successful relationship in other areas.

The aim of the pilot is to test the entire logistical process chain before phase 2 sees the offer being extended to private customers.
