Neosphere Technologies Acquires Biceng Corporation
Development of global ‘electronic postal service’
MCLEAN, Va.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Oct. 1, 2001–Neosphere Technologies, Inc., the Northern Virginia-based information systems and e-business services company (OTC:NSPT – news), today announced the acquisition of BICENG Corporation of Vienna, VA, creator of the DigiPostal(TM) system for confidential Internet document delivery and on-line certification, authentification and verification of e-postal transactions.
At the same time, Neosphere (www.neosphere.com) acquired 20 percent of BICENG China, an affiliated company based in Guangzhou (Canton), which is developing similar services for the rapidly emerging Chinese market, including major government agencies.
Neosphere chairman and CEO George Filippides described the acquisitions as an important milestone in the development of a nationwide and eventually worldwide electronic postal service. “By combining the marketing and technology resources of Biceng and Neosphere, we will greatly accelerate the development of this exciting new service, which will receive a hugely significant boost when China enters the World Trade Organization later this year.”
The integration of Neosphere’s e-processing software and DigiPostal document computing will facilitate legal, financial and other business transactions between U.S. and Asian companies in which each company communicates in its own language and different computer formats, Filippides explained. “Essentially, we are creating the world’s first secure and reliable electronic postal service for e-business, with instant data-element translation, and data exchange formatting abilities.”
Initially, he said, the service will be primarily used by international law firms and financial institutions. American banks, for instance, will be able to offer on-line banking services to customers throughout Asia in the local language. He described upcoming opportunities for development of the system in China, Japan and Korea as “truly breathtaking.”
Bert Horton, president of BICENG Corporation (www.biceng.com), will join Neosphere as executive vice president for business development. Before joining BICENG, he headed business development in Asia and the Pacific for Mead Packaging. Dr. Dean Shue, a leading Internet engineer, remains president and CEO of BICENG China.
