Koorstra joins IPC Board

Royal PostNL CEO Harry Koorstra has been appointed to the Board of the International Post Corporation (IPC). The IPC is a cooperative association of postal operators in Europe, North America and the Asia-Pacific region, which the aim to improve operations and provide intelligence among the members and increase the service quality to customers.

Commenting on his appointment, Koorstra said: “I am honoured to be appointed in this position and to be able to contribute to the development of the global postal market.

“The world wide postal industry is facing challenging times with a global economic downturn and increased competition with email and other internet applications. I feel I can make an important contribution with my proven track record at Royal PostNL, an independent company that had to weather liberalisation and e-substitution for many years already.”

Over the past two decades IPC has collaborated with its members to upgrade the quality of mail service by developing technology systems that bring transparency to the mail processing system.

It also manages the system for incentive-based payments between postal operators and creates business intelligence for its members, by providing a range of platforms for CEO’s and senior management to exchange best practices and engage in industry research.

IPC represents the majority of the world’s mail, with its members delivering about 80% of global postal volumes.

Koorstra has been chairman of the Board of Royal PostNL since the demerger of TNT into a postal and an express operator became effective earlier this month.

He has held the position as group managing director mail and a member of the Board of Management of TNT NV since July 2000.

He joined Royal PostNL (then PTT Post) in 1991 as managing director of its then Media Service business unit, and became a member of its Board of Management in 1997.

Before joining the company, Koorstra worked for 15 years at VNU NV, most recently as general director of its Admedia/VNU Magazine Group.
