Doran leaves Network Rail to become Royal Mail’s CIO
Royal Mail has appointed Catherine Doran as its new chief information officer (CIO). She will join the soon-to-be-privatised mail business on 1 September from Network Rail, where she leaves the position of director of corporate development, a spokesperson for the rail company told Post&Parcel this morning (Tuesday).
Doran will report to Alex Smith, director of business development & technology, and will be on the Group Executive Team Committee.
She joined Network Rail as CIO in 2006, and took on her current role in 2008.
Royal Mail has been seeking a new CIO since Yvonne Ferguson left the company late last year, only months after taking over from Robin Dargue in June 2010.
Ferguson, who previously led the IT team at Transport for London, was initially drafted into the mail business in order to work alongside Dargue during Royal Mail’s £1.2bn IT transformation project.
A Royal Mail spokesperson told Post&Parcel: “Catherine has a wealth of senior management and IT experience in both the public and private sectors.
“She has led the transformation programme in Network Rail which has involved the design, planning and implementation of the multi-billion pound transformation of the entire company.
“Working closely with leaders across the business, Catherine will drive the transformation of our technology estate to underpin the commercial and operational transformation we need to achieve as a company.”
