Compaq Computer: USPS Contract worth $1 billion

Compaq Computer Corp. has won a five-year contract renewal with the U.S. Postal Service that could be worth about $1 billion. ‘A contract of this magnitude validates Compaq’s strategy of focusing on integrated solutions that create value for customers, rather than just providing hardware,’ said Peter Blackmore, executive vice president of worldwide sales and services for Compaq, Thursday. The deal, which could be extended to total 10 years, includes Compaq and third-party products as well as services. Known as ADEPT2, the new contract is a ‘re-compete’ of an agreement first awarded to Compaq in 1994. Under the earlier agreement – ADEPT1, Compaq delivered more than $1.2 billion of products and services, including over 32,000 servers, 180,000 desktops and 50,000 notebook computers, Compaq said. The services are provided to 42,000 Postal Service locations across the United States, Puerto Rico and Guam.”
