PostNL completes sale of its Czech and Slovakian mail activities

PostNL has completed the sale of its addressed and unaddressed mail activities in the Czech Republic and Slovakia to ID Marketing.

PostNL will now focus its European mail activities on addressed mail in the large countries where it has strong market positions: the UK, Germany and Italy.

This follows the recent verdict in the Enterprise Chamber of the Court of Amsterdam, which declined all requests by the Production Works Council against PostNL’s planned reorganisations.

Important points in the verdict were:

The size of the savings PostNL wants to achieve and the reorganisations linked to them are in proportion
The proposal by the Works Council to keep 150 delivery offices open for several years is not an acceptable alternative
PostNL had taken into account the interests of the employees concerned
The verdict enables PostNL to continue its intended reorganisations, which include the establishment of central preparation locations and the phased closing of 300 delivery offices.

PostNL processes 8.8 billion addressed postal items (including 100 million parcels) per year, delivering to more than 88 million addresses in the Benelux, Germany, the UK and Italy. Employing around 77,000 people, the company generated a turnover of nearly €4.3 billion in 2010
