FedEx Express launches domestic services in Colombia

FedEx Express has launched its own next-business-day domestic services in Colombia, FedEx Express Nacional. The US company promised a “reliable, convenient and high-quality” express service for businesses in Colombia’s major cities – Bogotá, Medellín, Cali, Barranquilla, Cartagena and Bucaramanga.

FedEx Express Nacional will also serve multinationals who move goods within Colombia, FedEx said.

The company said launching the Nacional service meant its customers could deal with a single shipping company for their domestic and international shipping needs.

The company had previously been providing deliveries within Latin America’s fourth largest economy through a partner contractor since 1993.

But with booming growth and improved security in the country, FedEx Express has been building up its own in-house infrastructure in Colombia in a move set to create 200 jobs over the next two years.

It launched direct international services for Colombia earlier this year.

“The launch of FedEx Express Nacional demonstrates our continued commitment to Colombia and our confidence in its future growth,” said Eduardo Berrizbeitia, general manager, FedEx Express Colombia.

“We are now delivering Colombian businesses the same high-quality service, reliability and unparalleled transportation expertise that FedEx provides in over 220 countries and territories around the world.”

Services

The domestic service in Colombia is FedEx Express’ second within Latin America, following the launch of FedEx Express Nacional in Mexico in October 2008.

FedEx Nacional will offer a number of options in Colombia, including next business day delivery before noon – Día Siguiente A.M. – for documents and packages, weighing up to 68 kg.

FedEx Nacional Día Siguiente provides next business-day delivery by the end of the business day for packages weighing up to 68 kg.

There is also a two-to-five day economy option, FedEx Nacional Económico for documents weighing up to 1 kg and packages weighing up to 68 kg.

For packages over 68kg, there are two options available: a one-to-two day Prioritaria service and an Económica option providing delivery between two and five business days.

FedEx Express said its shipping options were available for the new services including door-to-door and time-definite delivery, as well as a Money Back Guarantee.
