Russian Post launches US visa service in post offices

Russian Post is making it easier for the thousands of Russians who visit the United States each year to get hold of an entry visa. The postal operator is making a new service available in all of its post offices, allowing for the payment of US consular fees.

Previously, the service had been available only in a select number of special branches, but will now be provided in more than 40,000 across Russia.

The service is being made available thanks to a new online application process at the US Embassy website.

Two working days after paying consular fees at a post office, applicants can use the website or call a call centre to arrange an interview required prior to the issuing of a visa.

“No less than 120,000 Russians visit the US every year,” said Maya Lomidze, the executive director at the Association of Russian Tour Operators. “The option to pay consular fees through Russian Post offices will mean convenience, which will expand the opportunities for citizens, especially from the regions, of applying for a visa. Of course, in the long term it will increase the number of people wishing to visit the country.”
