HAND HELD PRODUCTS ANNOUNCES $9 MILLION LOCAL EXPANSION

SKANEATELES FALLS, N.Y., Oct. 29 /PRNewswire/ — Hand Held Products, Inc. (HHP), a Welch Allyn affiliate and leading provider of image-based automatic identification data collection barcode scanners, POS automation and mobile/wireless solutions, broke ground today on a $9 million construction project for its world headquarters in Skaneateles Falls, N.Y. The new 111,000-square-foot facility will be completed by spring 2002. The state-of-the-art facility, with more than double the square footage of the existing building, will be located just blocks from the current site. The structure will include increased production, manufacturing and office space. HHP Chief Executive Officer Kevin Jost said the company worked with Onondaga County to make the expansion financially feasible by designating the new site an Empire Zone. “It was important that we expand here in Skaneateles. This community has been steadfast in its support throughout our history and we want to continue to grow here,” said Jost. “We’re grateful for the help from our local government without whom we could not have embarked on this project.” In 1999, Welch Allyn Data Collection, Inc. expanded through the acquisition of Hand Held Products, Inc. Achievements of the respective companies include the bar code wand scanner and the industry’s largest rollout of mobile hand-held computers. HHP has experienced great success during its collective 30 years of designing and developing high-performance image-based data collection systems for the transportation, postal, warehousing, distribution, manufacturing, field service and retail markets. In 2000, the company employed 375 people and reported continued track record of profitable growth. HHP devices are used by many of the world’s largest parcel delivery and field service companies, including Federal Express, Dow Chemical, US Sprint and RPS.

Located in Skaneateles Falls, N.Y., Hand Held Products, Inc. is a global leader in image-based data collection, offering the industry’s most complete and affordable line of hand-held bar code scanners, mobile computers and retail peripherals. With more than 30 sales offices and hundreds of resellers, Hand Held Products, a privately held company, is represented in every major market and geographic region in the world.
