New Zealand Post awards postage-paid envelopes for charities

New Zealand Post is handing out postage-paid envelopes to around 4,000 community groups across New Zealand, as part of its annual Community Post initiative. The Post said applications from eligible groups across the country have been considered by 16 regional boards.

It will see 1.1m envelopes, which already include domestic postage, given to non-profit community organisations and programmes to help them with fundraising and other communications activities.

In particular, the envelopes are being handed out to organisations supporting some of New Zealand Post’s three priority areas for community work – education, health and business productivity.

“We left the final decision up to those Regional Boards, but we asked them to give priority to projects which align with New Zealand Post’s other sponsorship priorities,” said Nicola Airey, head of sponsorship for New Zealand Post. “Specifically, we support projects which encourage literacy and education, those which promote health and wellbeing, or those which involve businesses working together to benefit communities.”

New Zealand Post has been running its Community Post initiative since 1998. Non-profit groups can now register for the 2012 programme on the Post’s website.

“We’re pleased to be able to support community organisations through Community Post – providing them with the means to contact the people they work with in the community to make things better for local people. We really wish these groups all the best in their lofty and worthwhile goals,” Airey added.
