PostNL sells majority stake in Italian document firm
Dutch postal operator PostNL has sold off its majority share holding in the Italian mailroom company Telepost S.p.A. The 51% stake in Telepost was sold to another investor in the company, Manutencoop Facility Management.
The Post said the sale came as the conclusion of a period of repositioning within Europe that has been underway since early 2010.
PostNL said in a statement that it was now looking to focus on mail services in major markets, where its core business is mail, parcels and e-commerce shipments.
“This transaction successfully finalises the focus on value realisation through partnerships or sale which have led to several transactions over the past one and a half years,” the company said in a brief statement.
“PostNL will concentrate on the addressed mail activities in the large countries where it has obtained strong market positions – Germany, the UK and Italy.”
Telepost S.p.A. was founded in 2004, when Italian telecommunications companies Telecom Italia and Emsa Servizi sold their document management divisions to a consortium led by TNT Mail, which became PostNL in May after a demerger from TNT Express.
