Croatian Post acquires printing house as step toward hybrid mail

Croatian Post has become majority owner of one of the country’s largest printing businesses, attached to the daily national newspaper Vjesnik (Journal). The postal service said it believed the printing house fit well with its own mail services, and would provide increased sales.

One of the key reasons for the investment has been to pave the way for Croatian Post to get into the provision of hybrid mail services, turning electronic communications into physical mail, it revealed.

“The synergy of services provided by the Vjesnik printing house and the services offered by the Croatian Post will provide increased revenues and a stronger positionin the Croatian market,” said the Post announcing its investment.

“Croatian Post sees this step as primarily to ensure quick implementation of one of its development goals – hybrid mail.”

The postal service also stressed the importance of the traditional printing business of Vjesnik, which analysts state has around a 65% share of the market.

The printing of the newspaper Vjesnik gives the business regular income and financial stability that Croatian Post said offered a basis for restructuring and further development of its printing technology, while maintaining jobs.

It is already planning a HRK 20m ($3.6m USD) investment in modernising existing installed printing capacity at Vjesnik, to provide “even stronger market positioning and better business”.
