DHL Supply Chain to align global warehouse operations
DHL Supply Chain is now in the process of adopting a single standard system to manage its warehouses across the world, which it believes will make for a simpler, more cost-effective operation. The logistics and freight division of Deutsche Post DHL has agreed a deal to make use of supply chain management technology from US software firm RedPrairie Corporation in all its facilities.
It will use the RedPrairie’s Warehouse Management System (WMS) and Workforce Management (WFM) tools to improve the accuracy of its supply chain and boost product availability.
DHL said the software systems will allow it to design better supply chains and inventory holding systems, improving services for its supply chain customers.
Alex PIlar, chief information officer at DHL Supply Chain, said: “Improving the ability to synchronise and optimise productivity in the warehouse and the workforce will enable DHL to continue to lead the way in meeting the increasingly complex global supply chain challenges our customers face every day.”
RedPrairie, which has its headquarters in Alpharetta, Georgia, says its systems are now in use within 60,000 customer sites in more than 50 countries.
It has already been working with DHL Supply Chain through an initial global framework agreement, but the new deal expands upon the relationship.
Martin Hiscox, the president for RedPrairie’s International business, said: “With the world’s largest logistics network, DHL Supply Chain will be able to continue to take the lead in providing the highest levels of visibility and collaboration throughout its customers’ global supply chains using RedPrairie’s WMS and WFM solutions.”
