Correos orders EUR 41m cloud-based IT system
Spain’s national postal service Correos has ordered a cloud-based IT system from T-Systems, a subsidiary of German telecommunications company Deutsche Telecom. The four-year project, worth EUR 41m, will see Correos lowering its operating costs thanks to its cloud-based IT network, T-Systems.
The deal will involve the hosting, operation and ongoing modernisation of the Correos business operating systems, with the aim of harmonising and consolidating the postal operator’s IT network.
Transferring Correos software applications to a web-based system will mean Correos can keep its IT services in line with current business developments and pay only for what it really needs.
Juan Jesus Torres Carbonell, director of technology, systems and innovation at Correos, said the contract was not only about chasing cost reductions.
“Although this is important,” he said, “it is also about searching for the best quality of service offered by companies in the technology sector, which in turn allows for Correos to focus its resources on driving its own business.”
T-Systems said its wealth of experience was the key factor in winning the Correos deal, particularly in supplying IT services to the postal sector. The company has customers including Deutsche Post DHL, Neopost and Poste Italiane, it said.
Fernando González-Llana, head of public sector business and healthcare at T-Systems in Spain, said: “Correos is a public sector pioneer in its response to the current economic situation. Aware of the major budget cuts currently needed and
competitiveness required for postal market liberalization, they have decided to break away from the typical inertia regarding subcontracting staff in public institutions and turned towards a service delivery model so that austerity criteria can be applied on a pay-per-use basis, without neglecting the need to improve service quality.”
