METRO FRANCE SELECTS CHRISTIAN SALVESEN AS LOGISTICS PARTNER
Christian Salvesen PLC, the European logistics company, has been awarded a
three-year contract valued at #16m (Euro26m) by Metro France, the leading
European cash-and-carry group with around one million customers within the
catering and retail sectors.
The contract requires storage, order preparation and delivery of frozen
products, including ice cream, to 75 Metro sites in France.
To meet Metro’s requirements, Christian Salvesen has opened two new storage
sites, in Argenton and Rognac, together providing 44,000 cubic metres of
capacity. Annual tonnage will be around 45,000 tonnes, of which 26,000 will
be from Argenton and the remaining 19,000 from Rognac.
The contract has created employment for an additional 60 people across the two
depots, working in the warehouses or in administration. Twenty vehicles and
25 drivers will be dedicated to the contract to ensure that high standards of
customer service are maintained.
Christian Salvesen already has an annual turnover in France of around #50m.
Earlier this year the company acquired industrial logistics business
Darfeuille to strengthen its national visibility and influence.
Customers include major food manufacturers, including Bonduelle, Masterfoods
and Unilever and retailers such as Aldi, Auchan, Atac, Carrefour, Cora, Lidl
and Match.
Commenting on the contract win, Edward Roderick, Chief Executive of Christian
Salvesen, said:
“Our national footprint in France will be considerably enlarged by our work
for Metro. We are pleased the company has recognised our proven expertise
within frozen food logistics, gained over a 40-year period.”
