Deutscher Packetdienst registers high losses in France and will close in January

Deutscher Paketdienst (DPD), a German parcel forwarder, announced yesterday that it would close down DPD France, its French franchise subsidiary, on 15 January 2002.

Chairman Peter Hoffmann argued that the subsidiary had closed the year 2000 with losses and was also set to register losses this year. The five logistics companies which DPD employs in France have a workforce of 300 and register annual sales of roughly DM100m. La Poste, France’s postal services operator which controls 85 per cent of Deutscher Paketdienst, is to take over control of DPD France. Abstracted from Financial Times Deutschland
